The Symbolic:
modificareThe Blazon The Official Emblem
The Flag of the Border Guard Service
The green color – of the blazon’s shield and that of flag’s cloth is the traditional color of the Border Guard Service. In the heraldic and the vexillology, the green color is also the color of destiny, hope, nature, freshness, hunters and youth. The embattled silver belt – symbolizes the state border of The Republic of Moldova and alludes to the border fortress of medieval Moldova. The basic sign of the emblem is the circular eagle. The eagle was one of the main emblems adopted by the roman ancestors, in order to be carried on the banners in the head of legions. Her gilded enamel, the same as it was in the antiquity, makes closer the old tradition to that of nowadays. The eagle carries on in its beak one cross, that is because it represents the Romanian eagle, which through this element of spirituality for our nation, individualized itself during centuries, in comparison with the eagles of others nations which inherited this roman military and state emblem. The eagle bears in the right claw a silver hatchet. The hatchet, an old weapon for fight, which had the role in heraldic of threatening the enemy, shows here that the border guards are watching over the legality, as well as a warning for those who would try to cross illegally the border. In the left claw, the eagle carries on a silver key. The key is a symbol with double role of opening and closing. It shows here that the border of the Republic of Moldova, by border guards’ will and according to the legislation, may be closed or opened. That depends on the intentions of those who would like to cross it. The shield from the eagle’s chest repeats through its composition and enamel, the main shield from the state blazon of the Republic of Moldova, having the same meaning and being at the same time a link between the State and one of its instruments. The flag of the Border Guard Service was elaborated based on the official emblem, through the method of expansion of the heraldic field in vehilar field. Thus, the flag takes on it the significance of the Border Guard Service’s emblem. The same sets of the original flag assign the place of Border Guard Service in the hierarchy of institutions and organizations of the Republic of Moldova.
